The Birthday
Celebration of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan

Library is the temple of knowledge. Temples are the source of positive
energy that brings us closer to the world that we live generating new ideas developing
the society for the mankind. Similarly, library is one of the greatest sources
of information for the present generation who are entangled with various kinds
of problems in the present society. This importance to library was given by an
Indian, Dr. S. R. Ranganathan whose incredible service has made all the Indians
feel proud and have a land mark in the history of Library Science.
Dream World School, under the SAGA7 wing took the privilege of
celebrating the 127th birthday of this great Indian soul, Dr. S.R.
Ranganathan on Thursday 9th August 2018, between 2.45 pm to 3.45 pm.
Dr. S. R. Ranganathan was a great librarian of 20th century. His
entire life was dedicated to the cause of library science and education. He
visualized libraries as the source for perpetual, self-education, knowledge and
information.
The program started with the prayer song by the
students of class 7. The teachers and members of the SAGA7 wing lit
the lamp of knowledge to begin the occasion.
The students of Readers club presented the
Biography of Sri. S. R. Ranganathan. Activities based on quizzing which
included identification of pictures, monuments, books, authors and other events
that are part of general knowledge. The activity was done in order to ignite
the fire of search and research among the students. Students inquisitively
participated in the activity that was organised.
After the activities, our Chief addressed the students
on the occasion giving the significance of library in the light of the
achievements made by Sri. S. R. Ranganathan in his career.
The 127th Birthday celebration of Dr.
S. R. Ranganathan is the commemoration of the importance of Library and to
remark the spark of knowledge hidden in the temple (Library) among the
students, teachers and everyone who wish to be a LEARNER. It is a programme of
awareness for the young learners to enrich themselves by discovering the
treasure of knowledge through the instrument of READING.
