A Report on The Solar System

 Classes - 1 to 4                                                                                                                   2019–2020

Solar means ‘of the Sun’. The Solar System is centred around the Sun, the shining ball in the sky. It includes the family of eight planets orbiting the sun, as well as the moons of the planets and smaller objects, such as comets, asteroids and bits of space rock. The powerful pull of an invisible force called gravity from the sun stops these bodies from flying off into deepest space. It is very important for students to learn about the Solar System, its features and other planets which help it suitable for life on it.

So, on Friday, 25 October 2019, the Foundation Centre II organised a festival titled ‘The Solar System’ with an objective to teach about the Solar System and its importance to the young ones of classes 1-4.

On the scheduled day the venue i.e. the school quadrangle was decorated with a screen that was vivid with the posters of different planets and famous astronauts. The events on this festival were divided into two parts. The first part included brief information about the topic through dance performances, skits, power point presentations and videos on the description and importance of the Sun, the Moon, the Earth and other planets.

The programme began by invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi by lighting a lamp and with a devotional song sung by the students, the programme began with an introduction song about the eight planets.

The second part was ‘The Dream Planetarium’ an exhibition which gave the students an experience of visiting a planetarium.  It resembled a true planetarium in which the eight colourful planets were revolving around the sun in the dark sky amongst the stars. At one corner of the exhibition the model of the unique planet earth was depicted with all the wonders of it, that none of the planets provide for the existence of life. The images of phases of moon and the models of eclipse taught the children about the occurrence of full moon day and new moon day, solar and lunar eclipses.

The eye-catching models of ISRO, different missiles and the cellular tower and other educative models of students and the telescope were great attraction which educated the students about our country’s advancement of our scientists in the space.

The last event of the festival was a heart emotive one because it was time to give a farewell to the class 4 students as it is the last year of their study in Foundation Centre II. So, the day was a memorable one for them as their photographs on various occasions during kindergarten and previous years in class 1-3 were displayed on the screen. They celebrated the occasion dancing merrily.

Being the last centre festival of this academic year, this festival was successful in giving widening knowledge about each planet of the solar system and especially about the earth, the moon and the sun. This festival built confidence in teachers and students to look forward for some more educative and entertaining centre festivals in the next academic year also.
