A Report on Centre Festival - 2: Ganesha Chaturthi

 Classes - I to IV.                                                                                                                 2019–2020

Ganesha Chaturthi is one of the main Hindu festivals. It celebrates the birth of Ganesh, the son of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. Ganesh is supposed to have been born on Shukla Chaturthi. He is considered to be the favourite God of children across the country. His appearance is unique as he has an elephant’s head and a pot belly which is a sign of prosperity. He is very fond of Modak which is an amazing sweet. Ganesh is known as Ganapati or the Lord of people and thus he is the most lovable to everyone.

The Foundation Centre II celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi every year to acknowledge the students with the stories related to Ganesha and his importance. This year we celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi on Saturday, 31st August 2019 with great pomp and joy in the school shed.

The clay idol of Ganesha that was made in the school was placed at the venue. The stage for performance was decorated grandly with the colourful cut out of Ganesha on the back screen with beautiful chain of marigolds and the stickers of ‘Om’ and ‘Swastik’ which are the symbols of divinity and spirituality.

The programme began by performing puja to the idol of Ganesha followed by lighting the lamp and a bhajan sung by students in praise of Lord Ganesha. Then four groups of students performed dandiya, kamsale, beating drums and legumes respectively welcomed the students who were dressed up in different forms of Ganesha namely Ekadanta, Spiderman, Doctor, Batman and Bahubali through a procession.

The skits highlighted the stories behind Ganesha getting the name Ekadanta, importance of offering durva grass, flowers and modak. The dance performances were very entertaining and also gave a message to the audience that sincere worship of Ganesha bestows them with good knowledge and prosperity. The ramp walk of the Ekadanta, Spiderman, Doctor, Batman and Bahubali Ganeshas amused the students greatly.

The wonderful dance performance of the teachers highlighted the necessity of making eco-friendly Ganesha to save the environment. The programme was concluded with the distribution of modak to students made by teachers at school with lots of love.

This Centre Festival was a successful one in acknowledging the students with the information about Lord Ganesha’s different names, importance of offering durva, modak and flowers. It was also a platform for the students to exhibit their skills of communication by taking part in various activities enthusiastically thus building confidence to overcome stage fear.
